Fresh Karachi violence claims nine lives KARACHI: Fresh violence gripped Karachi on Friday that killed at least nine people while more than a dozen vehicles were burnt, Geo News reported Saturday.

An oil tanker was set on fire at link road in Gulshan-e-Hadeed while six motorcycles were burnt in Banaras, Qasba Colony, Kati Pahari and Peerabad police station jurisdiction. Vehicle burning incidents also took place in Shah Faisal Colony, MA Jinnah Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nipa, Safoora Chowk, Gulburg, Banaras, Tower, Kemari and other areas.

A vehicle was set on fire in Shah Faisal Colony No.1 while miscreants tried to block Shahre Faisal and Tipu Sultan Road by burning tyres. Public transport is absent from the roads and the commuters are facing difficulties in carrying out their day-to-day tasks.

Police has started search operation in Nazimabad No. 2. According to the police, unidentified armed men shot dead two people in Nazimabad No. 2. The deceased have not been identified yet and their bodies shifted to hospital. In the same area, some unidentified men hurled a hand grenade near hotel, injuring many people. The death toll in the area has reached to three.

In Pak Colony area, two bodies were found from the car of an unidentified person. Both deceased were shot dead after being abducted. A body bearing torture marks was also found from Bin Qasim while one man was shot dead near Habib Bank Chowrangi in SITE area. Also, a political party member was killed in Quaidabad.

Two men were burnt to death while others sustained injuries as the bus was torched in Kemari area. Police claimed that two alleged culprits of the incident have been arrested.

Exchange of fire between two groups took place in Quaid-e-Azam Colony, injuring two persons including a woman.

According to Additional IG Saud Mirza, police conducted search operation in different areas including Nazimabad No.2, Sohrab Goth and Saddar and arrested more than 50 people from various parts of the city. He said that several people have been detained during the operation and arms were also recovered from their possession.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that conducting peaceful protest is ever ones' right and urged not to make protest violent.
