Notification making Sohail Ahmed OSD not implementable: SC ISLAMABAD: A six-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry heard the Hajj corruption case, Geo News reported. In its order the apex court stated that the notification to make Secretary Establishment, Sohail Ahmed officer on special duty (OSD) was not implementable and the concerned authority should appoint him anywhere within seven days or the notification would be deemed suspended.

According to the order, Hussain Asghar would be given charge in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) upon his return. The order also stated that parliamentarians had brought the Hajj corruption issue to the court and a letter was written by a Saudi prince regarding mismanagement in Hajj affairs.

During proceedings, Attorney General, Maulvi Anwarul Haq informed the court that Chief Secretary Gilgit-Balitistan had stopped Hussain Asghar from leaving the post of IG on directives of the Chief Minister. The AG also told the court he had not met with the Prime Minister.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Haq said the actions of the government should not be considered resistance and the court’s orders would be implemented.

Secretary Establishment, Sohail Ahmed was made OSD by the federal government for abiding by court orders and issuing the notification to reinstate Hussain Asghar to FIA so he could investigate the Hajj corruption case.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case for indefinite period.
