ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and MQM Chief Altaf Hussain
discussed the dual nationality issue during a telephone call.
The
MQM chief asked Prime Minister Ashraf to speed up efforts to remove a
restriction on Pakistanis with dual nationality that prohibits them from
taking part in general elections.
Prime Minister Ashraf assured
the MQM Chief that with cooperation from coalition partners the
government would soon work towards legislation relating to dual
nationals' taking part in general elections.
Hussain appreciated
the efforts of the prime minister in regards to the dual nationality
issue and apprised him about the efforts of Federal Minister for
Oversees Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar. The MQM chief also assured the
prime minister of his party’s support in addressing challenges the
country was facing.
During the telephonic conversation, Prime
Minister Ashraf also termed the meeting between Altaf Hussain and
President Asif Ali Zardari a positive step.
