Lahore: Parchi system at taxi, rickshaw stands abolished

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has announced to abolish Parchi System (receipt system) at taxi and rickshaw stands in the city.
Talking to a delegation of rickshaw and taxi drivers here on Sunday, he said that poor taxi and rickshaw drivers were being exploited and charged more than Rs 10 in the name of Parchi system. He said the decision to do away with Parchi system would provide a relief to drivers.
He said that contractors were charging more than the fixed fee of Rs 10 from poor taxi and rickshaw drivers in the name of Parchi system, which was injustice and issued instructions for immediate abolishment of Parchi system throughout the city.
Rickshaw and taxi drivers thanked the Chief Minister for ending Parchi system and said it will rid them of the highhandedness and exploitation of contractors.
The Chief Minister said that District Coordination Office Lahore should evolve a policy with the consultation of rickshaw drivers for checking noise and smoke-emitting rickshaws causing environmental pollution and ensure its strict implementation.
He said that action should be taken against such rickshaws and they should not be allowed to ply on the roads. (APP)
